When I was growing up, the prevailing belief was that Stegosaurus primarily existed in the areas we know now as Utah and Wyoming. However, recent findings have indicated that early Stegosaurs may have had a much greater world reach than previously thought. Earth was much different back then, and all the lands that we know as modern continents used to be fused together in a singular mass called Pangea. As a result of the eventual break up of Pangea, we are now finding “cousin” species of Stegosaurus all over the world, such as Kentrosaurus in Africa and Tuojiangosaurus in China. One such “cousin” even seems to have existed in Scotland, which is why it was cool to see this Stegosaurus skeleton being represented at the country’s National Museum.
Although I believe this one is a replica, it’s a very nice one, with an unusual descending pose and the gular armor visible under the neck. Also, since it doesn’t seem to be composed of actual fossil material, the museum allows you to get very near and study it up close. As I get closer to seeing all of the Stegosaurus displays in North America, I’m eventually going to have to start getting out to visit more and more of these international ones. Hopefully they’ll all be this awesome!
About me
Musician & Youtube Host with a passion for Dinosaur Hunting
Hi there, my name is Dan Avidan. I’m mostly known as the singer for Ninja Sex Party, and a comedian on the YouTube show Game Grumps. What is not as well-known about me is that I am also a huge lover of dinosaurs.
It started when I was five years old and my granddad took me to the American Museum of Natural History in New York City. I was immediately captivated by the dinosaur skeletons and was mystified that these ancient animals actually existed.
